We teamed up with Open School NW, a rad charter school in Portland, to revamp their website from meh to magnificent! They came to us in a panic, needing a total makeover because their old site was about as user-friendly as a porcupine in a ball pit. Originally, the website was all about donors and their donations, but then COVID-19 crashed the party and everything changed. Open School NW needed a website that not only appealed to donors, but also had the latest news on the school’s constantly-evolving COVID policies. Plus, they wanted to cater not just to their existing students and parents, but to new families as well. Talk about a challenge!
So, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. The first step in our redesign process was crafting a kick-ass Navigation Map. This thing was a beast – countless hours of meetings and two pages long! But it was worth it, because it gave us a clear roadmap to designing a website that could cater to all kinds of different audiences. Why is navigation so important, you ask? Well, first of all, it improves the overall usability of the site. Nobody got time to wander around a website looking for what they need!
But that’s not all – good navigation can also boost your website’s SEO, meaning it’ll show up higher in search engine rankings. So, we took our time creating an effective navigation map before we even started designing the website. And let me tell you, it paid off! Our website redesign for them was so effective that they decided they didn’t even need a new website after all! Can you believe it? They had originally just wanted a stopgap website, but our redesign was so amazing that they scrapped the whole idea. Not only did they save a boatload of cash in the process, but they now have a website that’s totally top-notch. Talk about a win-win situation!
