Design Awards

Humble brag! I’ve won a few International design awards. Ahem, ahem. Also, my books are collected in about 40 Universities in US including Harvard and Wellesley College! Need another reason to work with me? My work is also listed in the Library of Congress. Woop woop! Oh and my work was published in mags, newspapers and books – Times of India, 500 Handmade Books, Oregon Home Magazine and PNCA catalog!

I am truly humbled by all this recognition. As an Indian immigrant my journey was incredibly difficult and fraught with tons of roadblocks. But I persevered with grit and determination. And if I can do it, anybody can.

If you’d like to read more about my immigrant experience, feel free to reach out to me. My book “From Familiar to Unfamiliar” is about my journey from India to US and experiencing this culture so different from mine.

My design philosophy:

I’m passionate about design. Good design. Design that makes you think. Design that connects. Design that evokes an emotional response. I love to push boundaries and think outside the box. I love to create. To innovate. I love experimenting with new materials, ideas and processes, always striving to find new ways of approaching a problem, finding new solutions. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t, but I am satisfied for having tried. I accept my failures as a part of the process, learn from them and move on. But when I am done, I would have created something that’s original and fresh. Design to me is like a journey, a process, and an evolution of form and ideas.

My process driven approach to design and ability to conceptualize as an artist is what sets me apart from other designers.

Looking for something?

So how do you pronounce Ochre?

Break ‘ochre‘ down into sounds: [OW] + [KR]. It’s ow·kr! You got it. Why Ochre? I used to be a water color artist back in India and Ochre was my fave color. According to Marriam Webster’s dictionary, it’s an earthy usually red or yellow and often impure iron ore used as a pigment.

Also, in Indian culture, it’s considered a sacred color. So there’s that.

This website redesign for @openschoolnw was very complex in its scope and it was crucial for us to map out the project clearly at the beginning. A well defined Navigation Map is necessary for the success of a project and that’s why I spend a lot of time before I begin any website!

Gotta go back to creating a nav map for a new website I’m designing for a local esthetician! 😉 TTYL 👋

I just got off a zoom session with a potential cli I just got off a zoom session with a potential client...well she’s now my client. 😁 Anyhow, I asked her how she found me and she said Google!!!! Omg! Omg! Omg! I was beyond ecstatic 🤩 My SEO is finally working! Lol. 😜 😜

And she said that she really liked my work and that’s why she approached me. But also that she was really drawn to my pics with my daughters on my About Me page! Wait. What? She really liked that I talked about how we spent time marking art and discussing design etc. She liked the personal touch on my website. She felt I was relatable. Boom. 💥

That’s what I tell all my clients. You cannot be all business on your website. You gotta tell your story. Talk about your family. Make it personal. Connect with your audience.

Anyhow, I went and told my daughters about it and we all did our happy dance together!💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻

We revamped @openschoolnw website and launched 🚀 it last week! Yaaaay!! And my client was so very happy with the results! 😇 That makes me happy of course!

Their old website was primarily designed for Donors but thanks to the pandemic their target audience changed. Now they want the website to appeal to not just donors but also current as well as potential students and families. 📚

So we completely overhauled their navigation...our meetings alone lasted for 3 hrs!!!! No kidding. I crafted a new navigation map for them based on their needs to make the website more user friendly with intuitive navigation. The #navigationmap was 2 pages long !!! Welp. 😅

We also designed a header that clearly showcased their two signature programs @openschoolnw and Step Up...so potential families had easy access to important info!

We made tons of other changes to the footer, staff directories, provided links to google hub, and most importantly added a top bar for important #covid updates!

A fun logo design/rebranding project I worked on l A fun logo design/rebranding project I worked on last December for @mthoodcraft

They make handcrafted housewares like coasters, bowls, trays using locally sourced downed wood. They use the live edge of the wood and contrast it with vibrant resin colors elevating these mundane household objects into a work of art. ❤️

Their brief was to design a logo that references the materials they use as well as the PNW mountains - and have it be a work of art just like their products 🙃

I LOVE how this logo turned out - it’s so on brand for them. LOVE the uneven edges of the letters to reference the live edge of the wood with the wood grain peeking from underneath. The colors were inspired by the rich resin colors used in their products. I had such a blast working on this design. 😇

Need a logo refresh? DM me! Link in bio.
